The province of Guangdong is battling strong winds due to Typhoon Wutip. The hurricane’s force is tearing roofs off houses and uprooting trees. Damage to power lines and communication networks is causing blackouts and poor phone service. Flights are delayed, schools are closed, and many roads are obstructed by debris. Rescue crews are clearing roads and working to reach those in danger. The authorities have opened emergency shelters and are delivering aid to affected people. While the destruction is significant, all available resources are engaged in recovery operations, and the strong winds will gradually diminish by Tuesday.
