It can be devastating to see your plants shredded after a hail storm, but there are things you can do to help your perennials and shrubs recover.

Here I show a few plants that received varying levels of damage and how to clean up the leaves.

Pruning helps encourage new growth and that's what's needed now. Remove heavily damaged stems and leaves so the plant can focus on sending energy to new and fresh growth. Spring is probably the best time for this type of damage to occur as the plant is already focusing on bulking up on top growth.

After pruning, provide a light application of liquid fertilizer to give a little boost toward recovery.
