The same promise. Two completely different fates.
When an American pilot is wounded, hiding in a deep ravine on Iranian soil, hundreds of the world’s most elite special forces charge into gunfire to bring him home—even at the cost of billions of dollars, even if it means destroying their own aircraft.
Meanwhile, in China—where Xi Jinping still proclaims that “no one will be left behind”—generals vanish without trial, billionaires disappear without explanation, artists are erased overnight, and a human rights lawyer has effectively ceased to exist since 2017, with no accountability from the authorities.
On one side is a blood oath. On the other, a decorative slogan. Why is there such a difference?
